Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>At the beginning\u00a0of this week Kenyan\u00a0government tightened security at Lungalunga crossing on the Kenya-Tanzania border in Kwale County following reports that criminals enters Kenya through the porous boundary.<\/p>\n

The security is acting on the received information that terror suspects who planned an attack in Mombasa a week back had entered Kenya through the crossing.<\/p>\n

According to The Nation, security agencies were working to prevent criminals from the border as confirmed by Katwale Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri.<\/p>\n

Kenya has not yet made any arrests after the attack, but the officials are more vigilant, patrolling the border round the clock and watching out the porous passages which are thought to be used by the criminals to sneak into the country.<\/p>\n

Mombasa terror attack<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police in Mombasa on Monday 24, August 2021 intercepted and arrested two terror suspects with two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, machetes and assorted weapons at the Likoni crossing channel.<\/p>\n

The suspects were transporting the weapons from Lungalunga and were crossing over to Mombasa, where it is suspected they had planned to\u00a0attack a security installation, most likely a police station.<\/p>\n

The interception came after the United States government issued a travel advisory to its residents planning to visit Kenya over terrorism risks.<\/p>\n

The suspects<\/strong><\/p>\n

Authorities in Kenya\u00a0believe the terror suspects who sneak into their country could be fleeing Mozambique from Cabo Delgado province, where an insurgeny is gaining strength, to return to Kenya.<\/p>\n

Among the most watched and patrolled areas are Shimomi, Vanga and Lungalunga including the Indian Ocean.<\/p>\n

Kenya has been targeted by terrorists in separate incidents. In 2013 the Al Qaed militants killed at list 67 people during a four-day siege at Westgate Mall\u00a0in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

In 2015 the Al Qaed-affiliated Al Shabaab attacked Garison university in Kenya and more than 140 students were killed. The recent attack was in June 2021 where three people were killed in northern Kenyan county.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
