{"id":35347,"date":"2021-09-17T14:31:44","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T14:31:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=35347"},"modified":"2021-09-17T14:22:56","modified_gmt":"2021-09-17T14:22:56","slug":"catholic-priest-grilled-by-top-police-bosses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/catholic-priest-grilled-by-top-police-bosses","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Priest Grilled By Top Police Bosses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Senior police bosses in Bomet on Thursday, September 16, summoned a Catholic Priest and grilled him over a planned Sunday service at his church.<\/p>\n<p>Father Ambrose Kimutai appeared before the police bosses on Friday, September 17, 2021, where he was informed that the planned service would not take place.<\/p>\n<p>The clergyman was grilled by Bomet East sub-county deputy county commissioner Joash Abongo and sub-county police commander Francis Gikeri.<\/p>\n<p>He was ordered to cancel the service which was to be attended by Bishop Alfred Rotich, who is in charge of the Kericho Catholic Diocese.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Rotich cancelled his visit to the church after Father Kimuti was summoned by the senior police officers.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the press, Father Kimutai stated that he was notified that the service can not proceed due to the ongoing campaign to contain the spread of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have been summoned by the security committee because of a planned Sunday mass. We have been told that the service can not proceed because of the Covid-19 containment measures put in place by the government,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But reports by a local publication indicated that the service was cancelled since the security authorities found out that politicians were planning to grace the event.<\/p>\n<p>Catholic Archbishop, Anthony Muheria, and his Anglican Church of Kenya counterpart, Jackson Ole Sapit, last week barred politicians from politicking in churches.<\/p>\n<p>Sapit barred former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, and Amani National Congress (ANC) leader, Musalia Mudavadi, from speaking at a church function on Sunday, September 12.<\/p>\n<p>The Anglican church Archbishop was attending the consecration of Rev. Rose Okeno as the Bishop of the Butere Diocese at the Butere Girls Secondary School in Kakamega County, where Odinga and Mudavadi were invited, guests.<\/p>\n<p>Muheria, on the other hand, released an audio file barring the politicians from Catholic pulpits on the same day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
