Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA) has called for mass demonstrations for all University of Nairobi Campuses.<\/p>\n

An internal memo signed by UNSA secretary General Kikwai Nathan Kiplangat, indicates that deliberations between the student body and the university administration on the increment of school fees and accommodation had collapsed.<\/p>\n

Against the backdrop of that development, the student leaders have informed the comrades that they have no option but to start demonstrations on Monday, September 20.<\/p>\n

The leaders further cautioned parents against bringing first year students for admission that had been slated for Monday.<\/p>\n

“In this regard, all first year parents and students who are to report to the University on the date are advised not to report to the University.”<\/p>\n

In July, the institution doubled school fees for postgraduate courses and parallel degrees. The move was informed by the reduced number of students enrolling to join the University.<\/p>\n

Some of the courses that were affected included Communications and MBA which students had to pay more than Ksh 600,000 for a two-year program from Ksh275,000.<\/p>\n

Following the report, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha cautioned universities over fee increase, noting that university reforms needed to be done in consultation with the government.<\/p>\n

The announcement of mass demonstrations came just days after Multimedia University closed indefinitely after students went on the rampage.<\/p>\n

An internal memo noted that the students became unruly and attempted to interfere with motorists along Magadi Road, leading to the decision by the University management.<\/p>\n

“By a copy of this memo, all affected students must clear from the university compound immediately but not later than 6 pm today 15th September 2021,” reads an excerpt of the memo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
