Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta joined Kenyans in celebrating athletes from across the world at a one-day international event dubbed ‘The Absa Kip Keino Classics’ held at Moi International Stadium, Kasarani.<\/p>\n

This is the second edition of the event and is the only Continental World Tour Series held in Africa. Thus, getting an opportunity to host the fete is considered a big endorsement to Kenya’s reputation in regard to her capacity to host international sporting events.<\/p>\n

\u201cLaunched in 2020, the Kip Keino Classic Tour is part of the best international one-day meets outside of the Diamond League.\u201d according to Kip Keino organizers, who glowingly praised the fete.<\/p>\n

The competition comprises Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at any level meeting that is held from February to December across different countries in the world.<\/p>\n

Kip Keino Classics has attracted over 180 athletes from across the world and is named after Kenya\u2019s greatest Olympian, Kipchoge Keino.<\/p>\n

Some of the Olympic champions gracing the one-day event from across the globe are; Soufiane El Bakalli of Morocco (3000m steeplechase), Kenya’s dual Olympic gold medalist and world champion Faith Kipyegon (1500m).<\/p>\n

The event has seen Kenyan athletes shine on the track, with Noah Kibet winning the men’s 800m race clocking in at 1.44.98 minutes.<\/p>\n

Additionally, as Faith Kipyegon topped the women’s 1,500m race, Mary Moraa won the 800m women’s with a time of 2:00.12 minutes adding to Kenya\u2019s gold medals.<\/p>\n

Ferdinand Omanyala capped it all after he ran his first sub-10 seconds on Kenyan soil by smashing both the Kenyan and African 100m record at the event.<\/p>\n

Uhuru has been publicly showing support for Kenya\u2019s sports since winning the seat in the 2013 General Election and the most recent was the lobbying for the World Safari Rally.<\/p>\n

The lobbying was successful and saw Kenya get a chance to host the event after 19 years. The last one had been held in 2002.<\/p>\n

The President has been silent on public matters in recent days, even as Kenyans protest skyrocketing fuel prices.<\/p>\n

The fuel prices have raised concerns, with politicians from across the divide including Deputy President William Ruto and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga calling for immediate action from the Head of State.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
