Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>IEBC has officially announced that they are scheduled to begin voter registration on October 4, 2021.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, September 22, the commission announced that they are targeting over 6m new voters ahead of the 2022 General Election.<\/p>\n

The mass voter registration exercise shall be conducted for 30 days from the date the exercise shall commence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commission targets 6M unregistered voters, especially youth 18 years and above and they only need to have their ID for purposes of registration and voting for the 4th October rollout of voter registration,\u201d read the commission\u2019s report.<\/p>\n

The commission came up with this decision today after holding a meeting with Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) to discuss areas of collaboration for the forthcoming Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration<\/p>\n

IEBC Chair, Wafula Chebukati has urged all security units to work closely with them to ensure they hold peaceful mass registration exercise and elections.<\/p>\n

The IEBC body has also stated that they do not have any problems internally, and they have come up with ways to deal with their external problems, to ensure they give credible election results.<\/p>\n

Stating a number of its challenges, IEBC says it faces late enactment of electoral laws too close to the election, which undermines planning and implementation of activities within the set electoral timelines.<\/p>\n
