Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>The County Government of Nakuru has honoured the late President Daniel Arap Moi’s long-serving press secretary, Lee Njiru, by naming a road after him.<\/p>\n

The road was unveiled on Tuesday, September 21, as part of the county government’s drive to rename 179 roads within the county.<\/p>\n

Njiru graced the momentous occasion as the signpost was being erected in his honour.<\/p>\n

The late President’s right-hand man has served as a civil servant for 46 years, out of which 43 were within the Presidency.<\/p>\n

Njiru was hired to the office of the founding President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, in 1977 and a year later, Moi retained him upon taking over after the demise of his predecessor.<\/p>\n

The two have had a long-standing relationship with Njiru terming Moi as a father figure.<\/p>\n

Njiru now runs an exotic resort in Nakuru as well as other businesses in the country after recently announcing his retirement from the civil service.<\/p>\n

In May this year, the County Government of Nairobi, named a road after COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli.<\/p>\n

The road in Nairobi’s uptown estate of Kileleshwa was renamed from Dik Dik Road to Francis Atwoli Road.<\/p>\n

“I want to thank the leadership of Nairobi County, under Anne Kananu for this great honour and recognition of services to the Government of the day, the community and Workers at large.”<\/p>\n

“We will continue offering our unwavering support to the leadership of the county,” Atwoli stated.<\/p>\n

The Nairobi Members of County Assembly have also drafted a motion seeking to rename Mbagathi Road from its current name to Raila Odinga Road in honour of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
