{"id":36322,"date":"2021-10-02T15:13:11","date_gmt":"2021-10-02T15:13:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=36322"},"modified":"2021-10-02T14:56:28","modified_gmt":"2021-10-02T14:56:28","slug":"plans-underway-to-disband-tvet-exam-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/plans-underway-to-disband-tvet-exam-agency","title":{"rendered":"Plans Underway To Disband TVET Exam Agency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institutions are facing a looming future as the government makes plans that are expected to impact 249,316 learners.<\/p>\n<p>The government plans to scrap off the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVETCDACC), which was enacted under section 44 of the TVET act.<\/p>\n<p>Education Cabinet Secretary, Professor George Magoha, established a technical committee to look into the procedures that would assist in eradicating the functions carried out by the council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe State Department has prepared the attached brief on the constitution of a committee to oversee the transfer of functions from TVETCDACC to KICD and KNEC,\u201d read a letter to Professor Magoha from Jwan Julius, Former TVET Principal Secretary, on January 5.<\/p>\n<p>According to a source who spoke to a local media station, the technical commission has completed their assignment and is now leaving the decision of disbanding the council with CS Magoha.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report giving details on the modalities of folding the council has been forwarded for action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dissolution of the council will see the function of developing a national curriculum for the technical and vocational institutions given to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the agency function on examination functions like setting and disbursement of exams will be taken over by the Kenya National Examination Council.<\/p>\n<p>Kenyans.co.ke spoke to Chief Administrative Secretary, Dr. Sarah Ruto who indicated that such matters are best known by Kenya National Exam Council and upon reaching out to them, they were unavailable to give comments on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi at the time, received a letter from the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua, over taskforce reforms of 2013 that had stipulated a new government management policy for the parastatals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo deepen the parastatal reform process, a committee was appointed by the president to implement the new policy. The committee has made a decision that you be requested to initiate the process of transferring the mandates and<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;functions as indicated.
