Traffic vehicles were on Wednesday deployed in Central region to enhance traffic operations.The region\u2019s police boss Patrick Lumumba, said that they had been allocated three traffic vehicles.<\/p>\n
Lumumba said areas that will receive the vehicles are Kiambu, Juja, Ruiru, Gatundu, Thika, Sagana, Kerugoya, Nyeri, Nyahururu and Kirinyaga.According to Lumumba, the vehicles will help reduce the number of traffic officers on the road.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople complaining of too many traffic officers on the road and that\u2019s what we want to avoid and instead have the cars deployed to different stations,\u201d\u201cThe traffic police officer\u2019s will only work at a station for a day, they will be rotated. We want to avoid more than one officer checking on one vehicle,\u201d Lumumba said<\/p>\n
He further said that traffic officers are still on the roads to improve security and also help facilitate the movements of VIPs and the cars within roundabouts and junctions.\u201cThe public should not be fooled that they will not be arrested by the police.<\/p>\n
Traffic police still have the powers to arrest wrong doers on the roads.Commander Lumumba added that although the road blocks are not permanent on the roads, police still has the power to put them back for multi-agency purposes.\u201cWe will put the road blocks if the need arises.<\/p>\n
If we get information that a certain road is being used for drug trafficking among other reasons, then we have the power to put the road blocks in place,\u201d he said.Last week, the National Police Service received 38 new cars to enhance its traffic operations on major highways.Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai commissioned the cars in Nairobi.The vehicles included 17 that will be distributed to major highways and eight to regional commanders for their patrols.?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
