Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta has rewarded the independence party Kenya African National Union (KANU) in fresh government appointments announced on Saturday, October 9.<\/p>\n

KANU Secretary General, Nick Salat, has been re-appointed as the chairperson of the Board of Agricultural Development.<\/p>\n

The KANU strongman will assume the new role immediately and serve for a period of three years.<\/p>\n

Salat has been instrumental in sealing of several coalition deals with the ruling Jubilee party and keeping KANU alive in the political arena.<\/p>\n

He has also been vocal in championing for Baringo Senator Gideon Moi’s presidential bid.<\/p>\n

The Head of State has also appointed Carol Musyoka as the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation (KDIC).<\/p>\n

Musyoka will also be at the helm of the corporation for a period of three years.<\/p>\n

In the new appointments, the former Attorney General Githu Muigai has made a comeback. Uhuru has appointed him the non-executive chairperson of the Council of Legal Education.<\/p>\n

Githu has also been made in charge for a period of three years.<\/p>\n

The former AG, who specialises in public procurement law, corporate finance, civil and commercial litigation resigned in 2018 to pursue personal interests.<\/p>\n

His recent assignment was representing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) case at the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n

He termed the verdict by the Appellate Court to throw out the BBI Bill as a \u201cdangerous proposition that only invites insurrection\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis judgment cannot be allowed to stand. It violates so many fundamental tenets of good Constitutional interpretation and management of Constitution conflict, that if it were allowed to stand it would be the recipe of civil uprising,\u201d Githu noted.<\/p>\n

Late billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi’s son-in-law Andrew Musangi has also been re-appointed as the chairperson of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board.<\/p>\n

Former journalist Kathleen Openda has retained her position as chair of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication council.<\/p>\n

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru appointed Henry Mbote, Robert Ochieng Ocholla, Alex Matere, and Hassan Osman to be members of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation board for a period of 3 years.<\/p>\n

Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed appointed former Senator David Musila as the Chairperson of the Board of the National Museums of Kenya for a period of three years.<\/p>\n

AG Paul Kariuki Kihara on the other hand appointed Samuel Nderitu, Jackline Oyuyo, Kananu Mutea, Aisha Abdallah, and Ashif Kassam to be members of the National Center for International Arbitration board for a period of 4 years starting<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
