Africa-Press<\/a> – Kenya<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Detectives investigating the death of Agnes Tirop found a confession letter allegedly left by Ibrahim Rotich, the prime suspect and husband of slain athlete.<\/p>\n

Keiyo North Sub County DCIO, Andolo Munga, disclosed that Rotich left the note at their home before fleeing in a bid to escape to a neighbouring Country.<\/p>\n

Though the DCIO could not reveal details of the note, he hinted that it corroborated multiple claims by the athlete’s kin, that Tirop was a victim of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

“The autopsy report and the suspect’s confession note, together with the murder weapons have given us overwhelming evidence which points to murder,” Munga told the Nation.<\/p>\n

He added that a CCTV report expected to be released on Friday would disclose whether there was anyone else in the house other than Tirop and Rotich.<\/p>\n

On her part, Tirop’s younger sister, Evelyn Jepng’etich, who was living with the athlete, stated that she was with her on Monday night before she was reported missing.<\/p>\n

Jepng’etich added that Tirop had faced her husband’s wrath on several occasions.<\/p>\n

“Even on the day she returned from the Olympic games, she did not sleep. She was wailing all night because of the beatings. In the morning her face was swollen and bruised,” she stated.<\/p>\n

Post-mortem results for conducted at the Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) mortuary on Tuesday, October 19, revealed that Tirop died as a result of injuries caused by stab wounds on the neck.<\/p>\n

She was also hit on the head with a blunt object.<\/p>\n

Rotich to being detained at the Eldoret Police Station for 20 days pending investigations while Tirop’s burial is expected to take place on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The star athlete, had just become the world record holder last month after winning the 10km road race. She clocked 30:01 during the Adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
