Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally issued a statement regarding the ongoing war and conflict in the neighbour country Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

In a detailed statement released on Wednesday evening November 3, the Head of State has castigated Ethiopian leaders and asked them to move beyond the original cause of the conflict to find a lasting solution.<\/p>\n

Speaking in his capacity as the Chairman of the East African Community and as the President in Office of the Organisation of African, Pacific, and Caribbean States (OACPS) he insisted that the fighting must stop.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe crisis has now escalated into a nationwide social convulsion of historical proportions for Ethiopia. The origin of the crisis, bitter and unacceptable as they might appear, can no longer be used as a justification for the continued suffering, killings, and the extended open warfare that now engulfs the nation,\u201d Uhuru stated.<\/p>\n

The conflict has been ongoing since November 2020 and has recently escalated threatening to spill over to neighboring East African countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt, therefore, concerns me deeply that after one year, the crisis has not abated but has in fact deteriorated. The fighting has continued, the deaths have accumulated, the displacement persists and suffering and humanitarian emergency has taken root in the country,” Uhuru remarked.<\/p>\n

Uhuru noted that he has engaged other world leaders who are working together with top help Ethiopia stop the fighting.<\/p>\n

“I have consulted with my colleagues’ Heads of State of Africa, with Heads of State of other great and powerful nations in the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, the European Union (EU) among many others in an effort to try to bring an end to this crisis,” Uhuru stated<\/p>\n

He added, “the lack of meaningful dialogue between the protagonists has been particularly disturbing to me today, I once again call on all well-meaning men and women of Ethiopia to come together and find a solution to help find peace at this critical time.”<\/p>\n

Thousands of people from the northern region of Tigray have been compelled to flee to neighbouring countries even as the war escalates.<\/p>\n

Uhuru statement come just hours after the National Police Service stated that they are on high alert following the violence and that they have heightened border surveillance.<\/p>\n
