Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna is adamant about his return to Kenya despite an alleged threat to his life.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on Saturday, September 6, the Canada-based lawyer, raised concerns about his life and the lives of those close to him.<\/p>\n

He claimed that a vehicle unknown to him had camped outside his home in Ontario, Canada, for nearly a fortnight posing a security threat. Miguna insinuated that the occupants of the vehicle were sent to keep an eye on him.<\/p>\n

“This Honda CRV, Ontario Plate Number BYLM 576, has been monitoring our house for the past 2 weeks,” the statement read in part.<\/p>\n

He further insinuated that should anything happen to him, President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Orange Democratic Movement party leader, Raila Odinga, should be held responsible. Despite the alleged threat, Raila’s former aide insists his return journey is unstoppable.<\/p>\n

“I don’t fear them. I don’t fear being eliminated. I’m still coming home,” the lawyer reiterated.<\/p>\n

On October 29, Miguna confirmed that he had booked a flight to Kenya and would be landing at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on November 16. He also added that he had used his Kenyan passport to book his flight back home.<\/p>\n

“For the avoidance of any doubt, I have used my Kenya Passport to book my flight to Kenya, scheduled to arrive in the morning of November 16, 2021, at the JKIA. Let no one claim that I have used any other passport,” he declared.<\/p>\n

Miguna, who hopes to return to Kenya nearly 4 years after he was forcefully exiled to Canada, recalled the events that led to his deportation.<\/p>\n

He accused Odinga of betraying him and turning the tables on him after he swore him in as the people’s president in January, 2018 at Uhuru Park, Nairobi. The lawyer claimed that the former premier did not utter a word when he was allegedly abducted, tortured and deported.<\/p>\n

Former Chief Justice, Willy Mutunga, on October 20, declared that he would travel to Canada to ensure that Miguna Miguna returns to the country as a way of not only defending the lawyer but also the independence of the judiciary following the continuous defiance of court orders by the Kenyan government.<\/p>\n

‘After careful reflection and following broad consultations with lawyers, human rights and justice defenders, progressive politicians, and Mr Miguna himself, I have decided to travel to Toronto, Canada, to accompany Mr Miguna on his flight back to his motherland on 16 November 2021,” the emeritus CJ stated.<\/p>\n
