Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The former Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ezekiel Mutua, has explained his break from the media screens after leaving office.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Hot 96 on Wednesday, November 10, Mutua stated that since leaving office on August 6, 2021, he has turned down over 30 media interviews.<\/p>\n

Taking some time off in order to chart his way forward, he affirmed that he changed tune moments after receiving a call from Citizen TV news anchor, Jeff Koinange.<\/p>\n

\u201cEver since I left office on August 6, 2021, I have turned down over 30 TV and radio interviews. But a call from Jeff Koinange earlier today convinced me to chat and chart my way to the next level. The journey begins tomorrow morning,\u201d he detailed.<\/p>\n

Further, Mutua castigated the increasing incidents of unrest in schools after over 31 school dormitories burnt in a span of three weeks.<\/p>\n

He urged all education stakeholders to provide guidance to the students to prevent further damage.<\/p>\n

“Our kids are on social media and they are being influenced by a lot of forces that are coming from across the globe with content that has war, vulgarity, horror including the play stations,” he stated.<\/p>\n

The former chair also poked holes on the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) education system, stating that the system had not been effectively implemented.<\/p>\n

“The CBC system is important but also character development is equally important. We have done very well as a country in transforming the hardware but we have forgotten the software. There is no discipline and our children are emulating what they watch in the media as leaders are insulting one another,” he stated.<\/p>\n

ICT Cabinet Secretary, Joe Mucheru, had announced that Mutua’s role as KFCB CEO ended to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to conduct investigations over the former chair receiving irregular payments in terms of salaries and allowances.<\/p>\n

The board was asked to provide personal files of Mutua, all payments of salaries and allowances including payslips and payment vouchers, human resource policy and procedures manual guiding the increment of salaries and allowances.<\/p>\n
