Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua, has detailed how he left a lucrative job in the United Arab Emirates in order to work for retired President Mwai Kibaki.<\/p>\n

Taking to his social media on Wednesday, November 9, Mutua revealed that at the time, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Communications and Media at Zayed University – an opportunity he opted for due to the hefty package offered.<\/p>\n

Seizing the opportunity, Mutua delved into researching and writing in order to come up with lucrative ideas.<\/p>\n

“I embarked on making films in the region and at the same time got a lucrative consultancy job with a leading media house in Kenya. I had several weekly columns in newspapers in Kenya (remember Msafiri?) and was becoming a respected communications specialist,” he noted.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that his expansive work got him noticed by Kibaki’s government, which offered him job to serve in the administration.<\/p>\n

“It was then that Kibaki\u2019s Government noticed me and found me and I quit my Dubai job and came to Kenya (taking a huge pay cut), to be the country\u2019s founding Government Spokesperson.”<\/p>\n

The opportunity to serve the people led the Governor to take the offer but he ultimately credited his financial stability to his time in Dubai.<\/p>\n

“It was working in Dubai, though, that stabilized my financial world. I was able to use the monies I made there to clear all loans and buy properties, including land in Kenya.”<\/p>\n

“I was also able to buy equipment for my production company (did someone say Cobra Squad?) and undertake many other investment ventures,” he reiterated.<\/p>\n

Before getting the job in Dubai, Mutua had worked as a lecturer and also as a foreign correspondent in Sydney, Australia. He also served as a Communications Director for a leading organization.<\/p>\n

“My expansive work got me noticed and I was head-hunted to work in the United Arab Emirates. I received an e-mail while I was on the island of Bioko in the capital city of Equatorial Guinea called Malabo, offering me a job. I was reluctant at first but a few months later, the thought of being close to home tipped the scales,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Mutua, who is serving his second and last term as the Governor of Machakos, remains upbeat that he will become the country’s fifth president when Kenyans go to the polls on August 9, 2022.<\/p>\n
