Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Office of the Deputy President has responded to claims that it had denied the recently posted security officers guarding William Ruto’s official residence in Karen, Nairobi meals.<\/p>\n

DP William Ruto’s Communication Secretary, David Mugonyi, dismissed the reports stating that the officers were getting food as required.<\/p>\n

He turned the heat to the Ministry of Interior, saying that it had not been paying the officers their allowances as required by law.<\/p>\n

“We have provided them with food. The only complaint I am aware of is delays to pay their allowances.<\/p>\n

“The officers are under the office of Inspector General of Police. Their welfare is catered for by that office. Even the GSU were under the IG,” Mugonyi stated.<\/p>\n

A letter signed by Internal Security Secretary, Wilson Njenga, and dated Thursday, November 11, asked Ruto’s handlers to ensure the bodyguards were either given food or allocated food allowances to enable them carry out their duties.<\/p>\n

“This is to bring to your attention that the above officers have not been consistently provided with food rations or meal allowances to enable them to discharge their mandate effectively and efficiently.<\/p>\n

“This is in contrast to their counterparts from GSU whom they replaced and who used to get food rations The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to request that you reinstate the food rations for the officers currently deployed in the two residences for optimal service delivery,” the letter read in part.<\/p>\n

The State withdrew GSU officers who were guarding the DP’s home in August and replaced them with officers from the Security of Government Buildings (SGB) unit.<\/p>\n

The replacing of the officers caused an outage among DP’s allies with most saying that the State was out to frustrate the DP.<\/p>\n

The DP would, however, stated he was comfortable with the changes and was even pictured enjoying a cup of tea with the officers.<\/p>\n
