Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai has ordered members of the National Police Service (NPS) to declare their wealth.<\/p>\n

In a circulating memo signed by Rosemary Kamaru, who works in the office of the Inspector General, the police have been required to declare their income, assets and liabilities.<\/p>\n

The wealth declaration of the police force happens bi-annually and is in line with the Public Officers Act 2003.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Public Officers Ethics Act 2003 under section 2 (b) required all public officers, every two (2) years, to submit a declaration of income, assets and liabilities of themselves, spouse and children under the age of 18 years,\u201d the memo read in part.<\/p>\n

Police officers are expected to submit duly filled-out forms to the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) by December 31, 2021.<\/p>\n

The wealth declaration will be applicable to all uniformed officers, regardless of their ranking. However, the forms of junior and senior staff will be handled differently.<\/p>\n

\u201cForms in respect of uniformed officers from the level of sergeant and below or National Police Service civilians and below should be retained by the service commanders, while those in respect of senior sergeant and above or civilians job group H should be forwarded to the commission,\u201d read the memo.<\/p>\n

In addition, all officers who are heading to retirement are also expected to submit their final declaration.<\/p>\n

The wealth declaration forms will be made available on the NPSC website. Police bosses have been instructed to oversee the process and ensure their juniors comply with the order.<\/p>\n

Kamaru warned that non-compliant officers will be dealt with according to the law.<\/p>\n

\u201cRemember that those who fail to comply with the stipulated requirements of the act as per section 32 will be liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh1 million or one-year imprisonment,\u201d the memo ended.<\/p>\n
