An altercation later ensued between the two after the officer confronted him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe resident was accused of planning to burn charcoal in the forest. He attacked the officer with the machete, injuring him in the head and hands,\u201d Lambwe West Location Chief Daniel Obure noted.<\/p>\n<p>He added that one of the KFS officer\u2019s ears was cut off.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The extent of injuries showed that the suspect overpowered the officer,\u201d Obure added. Detectives, however, wondered why the officer did not pull out his firearm to caution the resident.<\/p>\n<p>Reports further indicated that the ranger collapsed and fainted after he was slashed. The sleuths believed that the resident seized that moment to steal the weapon before vanishing into the forest.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, dumped the gun a few miles away while scampering for safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe rushed the injured officer to a nearby hospital where he received first aid before being rushed to the County Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was admitted,\u201d the chief narrated.<\/p>\n<p>Mbita Deputy County Commissioner Abraham Kemboi cautioned the residents from protecting the fugitive and urged them to cooperate with police to track him down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone found culpable of helping the resident will be charged with aiding and abating a wanted person.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The suspect is still at large.
