Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Deputy President William Ruto has continued to charm the electorate in his quest of popularizing the Bottom up economic model.<\/p>\n

Speaking in Machakos County on Wednesday, December 1, the DP promised that his administration would resolve key issues facing Kenyans such as the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).<\/p>\n

He pledged to implement key reforms and restructure the NHIF cover in his first 100 days in office.<\/p>\n

While addressing the issue for unemployment for millions of youth, he pledged Ksh100 billion for agro-processing, value addition, housing in order to create structures and systems that would aid in creating jobs.<\/p>\n

Further, he noted that the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises would be catered for in the Ksh50 billion pledge.<\/p>\n

Ruto went on to poke holes in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), describing it as a preservation plot for a section of politicians in order to consolidate power and create positions for their own favour.<\/p>\n

“What is the priority for us as a nation? Is it to create positions for leaders or create jobs for ordinary young people of the republic of Kenya? That is the decision we have to make,” he stated.<\/p>\n

He also differed with his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s State of the Nation address, in which the Head of State had pointed out that the country was in a constitutional moment. Ruto insisted that the country was in need of a dire economic turnaround that would address fundamental issues like unemployment facing millions of Kenyans.<\/p>\n

The DP has been on a campaign trail, popularising his hustler narrative which primarily centres around empowering millions of citizens who are at the bottom of the economic pyramid.<\/p>\n

However, Former Premier Raila Odinga, is countering the DP, with the Azimio la Umoja campaign. Through this, he has made several pledges to the youth such as free education to students from nursery level to the university in a bid to guarantee universal access to education for all.<\/p>\n

The universal health care is among the four pillars of the Jubilee government whereby Uhuru promised affordable access to medical healthcare services for all Kenyans.<\/p>\n
