{"id":40727,"date":"2021-12-03T15:07:38","date_gmt":"2021-12-03T15:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=40727"},"modified":"2021-12-03T14:48:45","modified_gmt":"2021-12-03T14:48:45","slug":"sprinter-omanyala-lands-recce-squad-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/sprinter-omanyala-lands-recce-squad-job","title":{"rendered":"Sprinter Omanyala Lands Recce Squad Job"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya&#8217;s sensational sprinter, Ferdinand Omanyala, on Friday, December 3, joined the National Police Service (NPS).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Omanyala stated he would be joining the service as part of the General Service Unit&#8217;s (GSU) elite Recce Squad.<\/p>\n<p>The sprinter is expected to begin his work in January but will not be going to Kiganjo Police Training College (KPTC) for training.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by the National Police Service indicated that the 25-year-old would take up a new role that will see him represent the National Police Service and the country in future track events.<\/p>\n<p>Omanyala was briefed on his new role by Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai, at his Jogoo House office.<\/p>\n<p>Those present during the event include Dean of Students University of Nairobi, Johnson Kinyua, and the Student Union (UNSA) Head of Communication, Joshua Sirma.<\/p>\n<p>The sprinter expressed gratitude to the NPS and the government for supporting talent. In addition, he promised to repay this kindness with success in the track events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is an honour to serve the National Police Service and I promise to give my best as an athlete. I also understand that there is life after sprinting,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<p>On his part, IG Mutyambai urged Omanyala to maintain his sporting discipline for him to utilize his full potential as well as deliver on his new role as a Police athlete.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I wish you well in the service for your country,&#8221; the IG stated.<\/p>\n<p>Omanyala, a second-year Bachelor of Science student at the University of Nairobi, rose to stardom when he clocked 10.01 seconds on March 30, 2021 in Lagos, Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The event was dubbed the &#8216;Making of Champions (MOC) Grand Prix&#8217; where he met the qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\">Kenya<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya.
