Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia is under fire by the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) over claims of irregularities in the recruitment of senior managers.<\/p>\n

CAJ, under Ombudsman Florence Kajuju, claims that TSC contravened the constitution and the National Cohesion and Integration Act of 2008.<\/p>\n

Kajuju stated that the top officials within the commission do not reflect the country – claiming that the recruitment occurs from one particular region.<\/p>\n

According to Kajuju, the Mt Kenya region has taken the lion’s share of the senior management position with 11 slots, and the rest are shared amongst other regions.<\/p>\n

“Whereas the commissioners and senior managers are supposed to reflect the face of Kenya, the current composition at TSC gives a different picture.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur complaints office will write to the TSC, which is the institution complained against, for a response on the issues highlighted in the petition. The management of TSC will then be summoned to appear before CAJ to state its case,\u201d read part of the petition.<\/p>\n

She stated that according to the law, no public establishment shall have more than one third of its staff from the same ethnic community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you take a close look at the composition of senior managers and commissioners at the TSC, it is evident that Mount Kenya region is favoured as it has the lion\u2019s share,\u201d the petition stated.<\/p>\n

The petitioner claimed that the commission hired certain top officials in order to protect the current CEO Nancy Macharia.<\/p>\n

The news comes as the TSC CEO, in a past interview, revealed that a cartel within teachers had resurfaced and was responsible for swindling millions from tutors.<\/p>\n

According to Macharia, the cartel mainly targeted tutors who were eligible for pension.<\/p>\n

“It is true, there were some cartels between us and the National Treasury. As you know, these cartels, I am sure you discovered them during recruitment and no matter how much we advertise that these services are free, why do people feel compelled to pay for something that should be done? Your pension is your pension regardless,” she stated.<\/p>\n
