Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya Rugby Union chairman, Oduor Gangla yesterday announced that the national Sevens circuit will resume next year after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid- 19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

The KRU boss said the tournament will most likely be played between June and July, adding that their target is to wrap it up before the country’s general elections in August.<\/p>\n

Gangla said it is important to have the circuit played to unearth new talent in the shorter version of the game.<\/p>\n

“We have developed the talent over the years from the circuit and they have gone on to represent the country on the international stage. I am confident we will have the circuit next year as we seek to tap more talent,\u201d said Gangla.<\/p>\n

He said talks are currently underway to source sponsorship from various corporates for the circuit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have started negotiations and we hope that come the new year, we will be able to unveil a number of sponsors,\u201d added Gangla.<\/p>\n

Outstanding players in the circuit get called up to either Shujaa or Morans and are given an opportunity to play at the Safari Sevens later in the year.<\/p>\n

KCB won the 2019 national Sevens circuit, Driftwood, Kakamega, Dala, and Christie Sevens tournaments. Mwamba tied with Homeboyz in second place as Nakuru and Impala completed the top five positions.<\/p>\n

The winner at the circuit goes on to represent the country at the Safari Sevens.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, Shujaa’s Herman Humwa has been named in the Dubai Sevens Dream Team following an outstanding performance last weekend.<\/p>\n

The burly Quins forward made a total of 16 tackles, had the most number of offloads(8) for the team, and scored five tries.<\/p>\n

Humwa will be seeking to continue his good form to the new year when Shujaa face France, Canada, and Wales in Pool D of the Malaga Sevens in January.<\/p>\n
