Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The government is set to send police officers to Doha, Qatar to help the Middle East country secure the FIFA 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n

Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i, discussed the details of the plan with his Qatari counterpart cum Prime Minister, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al-Thani, when the duo met on Friday morning, December 10, in Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Matiang\u2019i joined the delegates in celebrating Qatar\u2019s National Day hosted by Ambassador Jabor bin Ali AL-Dosari.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn principle, we agreed with the Minister of Interior of Qatar that Kenya could provide security personnel to support the Supreme Committee on Delivery and Legacy of Qatar in providing security services during the 2022 FIFA world cup in Qatar,\u201d Matiang\u2019i stated.<\/p>\n

He added that move to send Kenya police to Qatar was hatched during his last visit to Doha.<\/p>\n

Other Kenyan officials who joined Matiang\u2019i to celebrate Qatar\u2019s National Day included Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission boss, Twalib Mubarak, Health Principal Secretary, Susan Mochache, MPs and Senators. The Day is always celebrated on December 18.<\/p>\n

The two countries were also in advanced talks on the opening of the Qatar Visa Center in Nairobi to help in processing travel papers including for the 37,000 Kenyans working in the Gulf state.<\/p>\n

The centre will be used to update the database of Diaspora workers and also assist in processing travel documents.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince establishing diplomatic ties in 2003, Nairobi and Doha have steadily grown their bilateral relations to include security, economic, education, cultural and sports sectors,\u201d a statement released by the Interior Ministry stated.<\/p>\n

The World Cup will commence on November 22, 2022, and end a month later, on December 22, 2022.<\/p>\n

In the first round of qualifications for the global tourney, Kenya garnered six points from six matches in Group E. Mali lead the group with 16 points, Uganda was second with 9, Kenya 6 and Rwanda closed with 1 point.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to ask ourselves, why can\u2019t we score goals. It is something that we must address, I don\u2019t understand why we cannot score.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven if I am not here, we need to prepare a project and work on it, and whatever time it takes, we must rectify and start scoring goals,\u201d then Harambee Stars Turkish coach, Engin Firat stated after Kenya beat Rwanda 2-1 in the last qualifiers\u2019 match.<\/p>\n
