{"id":41669,"date":"2021-12-15T15:08:36","date_gmt":"2021-12-15T15:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/?p=41669"},"modified":"2021-12-15T14:08:48","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T14:08:48","slug":"src-proposes-increased-salaries-for-mps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/all-news\/src-proposes-increased-salaries-for-mps","title":{"rendered":"SRC Proposes Increased Salaries for MPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) on Tuesday, December 14, published proposed salaries for state officers set to be implemented from the financial year of 2021\/2022 and 2022\/2023.<\/p>\n<p>In the new proposed changes, the salaries of Members of Parliament and Senators will rise from Ksh 621,250 gazetted in July 2017 to Ksh710,000.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The proposed monthly consolidated remuneration package is fixed for the term of the office of the State officer in the Executive of the County Governments unless otherwise reviewed and set by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The proposed monthly consolidated remuneration package is a consolidated pay includes house allowance in line with section 31(2)(a) of the employment, Act,2007,&#8221; SRC stated.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, there is also an increase of allowance for the legislators sitting in committees. SRC has proposed an allowance of Ksh15,000 for committee chairpersons and Ksh7,500 for other members.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Chairpersons shall be paid Ksh15,000 per sitting subject to a maximum of Ksh240,000 per month and members shall be paid Ksh7,500 per sitting subject to a maximum of Ksh120,000 per month,&#8221; SRC proposed.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2017 gazetted pay schedule, allowance for chairpersons of committees was capped at Ksh8,000 per sitting while the other committee members received Ksh5,000 per sitting. Committee vice-chairpersons will receive Ksh12,000 if the new changes are passed and effected.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, dental and optical medical allowance for the MPs has been raised from Ksh75,000 to Ksh100,000.<\/p>\n<p>However, the salary of the President remains at Ksh 1,443,750 while that of his deputy is retained at Ksh1,227,188.
