Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Chief Justice Martha Karambu Koome and her deputy, Philomena Mwilu, are the only two officers of the Judiciary whose pay will not be reviewed upwards.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, December 15, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) allowed the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to give allowances to its officers.<\/p>\n

In the new scheme, the CJ only had her pay restructured to include basic and allowances totalling to Ksh1.3 million. Previously, she received a consolidated pay.<\/p>\n

DCJ Mwilu saw her pay also maintained.<\/p>\n

The officers, who are expected to receive a pay rise from the directive, include the highest ranking Court of Appeal Judge whose pay was raised to Ksh1.15 million but divided into Ksh770,508 basic pay and Ksh385,600 allowances.<\/p>\n

Previously, the Judge earned Ksh1.12 million.<\/p>\n

Judges of the High Court also saw their pay increase from Ksh907,000 to Ksh1 million in monthly income.<\/p>\n

Chief Magistrates will have their pay will increase from Ksh650,253 to Ksh732,035 per month, while security allowances for the officers will rise from Ksh15,000 to Ksh20,000.<\/p>\n

The new clearance by the SRC for the JSC to effect the pay review has been a two-year protracted battle since the High Court ordered the commission to effect the same in November 2019.<\/p>\n

The SRC had, however, failed to implement the directive after it filed an appeal at the same time but the hearing duration has since lapsed.<\/p>\n

In the new SRC restructure, MPs were the biggest beneficiaries in the latest wave of pay rises for state officers.<\/p>\n

MPs salaries will rise from Ksh621,250 per month to Ksh710,000. Their sitting allowances were also revised upwards.<\/p>\n
