Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Garissa women representative Anab Gure on Saturday thrashed the awdhaq council of elders decision to drop her in favor of another candidate saying that she will be in the ballot.<\/p>\n

The Garissa Awdhaq council of elders led by Sultan Dekhow Sambul endorsed several candidates for seats within the county.<\/p>\n

Those picked were Abdikarim Osman (Fafi) Issa Yarrow (Balambala), and Udgoon Siyad (women representative).<\/p>\n

Among those left in the cold were Gure and Salah Yakub[Fafi], Abdikadir Aden and Ismail Arale, Yarrow Aress[Balambala] who had shown interest for the seats.<\/p>\n

Addressing her supporters in Bura east town, Gure who hails from the rer Harub sub clan said \u2018she will stop at nothing to make sure that she clinches the seat in next year\u2019s polls.<\/p>\n

Gure said it is within her democratic right to contest for any seat she wants \u2018without seeking approval from any body\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to make it public that certain individuals are trying so hard to curtail, infringe and bring down the gains we made since 2017 for their own benefit, that I will personally not accept,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe recent declaration from the council , though I don\u2019t agree with the decision of the elders, I respect them. So just to set the record clear, I am in the race for the Fafi parliamentary seat in the 2022 elections. Women leadership should never be looked down upon.”<\/p>\n

Gure who also used to the opportunity to campaign for Deputy president William Ruto said she will soon be rolling out a massive campaign to popularize her bid noting that her track record speaks for itself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have left indelible footprints of development in the last four years which I believe will help me clinch the seat. We shall therefore continue the good work we have done by engaging with wananchi for a prosperous county,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The women representative disclosed that she will be contesting the seat on her UDA ticket.<\/p>\n

Negotiated democracy in Garissa is under scrutiny with the latest clan endorsements drawing mixed reactions.<\/p>\n

It is a traditional mechanism of nominating political leaders in Northeastern.<\/p>\n

The proponents and supporters of negotiated democracy term it a pragmatic association of local interests and maintaining stability among communities.<\/p>\n

However, its critics say it is a sanitised system of impunity, with no foundational democratic ethos or ideological framework.<\/p>\n
