Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday, December 21, asked motorists to use alternative routes while approaching the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.<\/p>\n

In a statement, KeNHA warned there was a traffic snarl up after a truck lost control and hit a ditch in the area. The authority added that one of the lanes had been blocked.<\/p>\n

Those approaching the section have been asked to do so with caution to avoid more damage.<\/p>\n

“Traffic advisory: Motorists are advised to take caution and use alternative routes while approaching DCI Offices along Kiambu Road. This follows reports that a truck lost control and hit a ditch blocking one lane of Kiambu Road. Drive Safe\u2026 Arrive Safe,” reads the statement.<\/p>\n

The National Police Service (NPS) and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) have expressed concern over the rise in number of accidents in recent months.<\/p>\n

According to recent data by NTSA, the Country had recorded the highest number of fatalities with 4,121 by November 30, 2021 compared to 3,478 recorded over a similar period last year, hence, an 18.5 per cent increase.<\/p>\n

\u201cPedestrians have been the most affected category of the vulnerable road users with 1,413 losing their lives compared to 1,231 last year,\u201d reads the report.<\/p>\n

The two bodies warned that most of the accidents were avoidable if road users followed set rules and regulations.<\/p>\n

They have since initiated a crackdown and will be on the look out for;<\/p>\n

Verification of Road Service License (RSL), motor vehicle inspection, driving license and conductor badges.<\/p>\n

In addition, compliance with route allocation to ensure PSV\u2019s ply routes they are licensed for and use of short term and Night Travel licenses.<\/p>\n

Further, speed monitoring and random checks for drivers and passengers along major highways.<\/p>\n
