Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka has called on the Luhya community to be united under one course in the coming general elections.<\/p>\n

Speaking during his campaign tour in Webuye East on Sunday, Lusaka faulted a section of Luhya leaders for defying the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Nyanza, they have Raila Odinga, Rift Valley its William Ruto but in Luhya land, everyone wants to go their way,\u201d Lusaka said.<\/p>\n

Lusaka has awakened his trial for the second time in the Bungoma County gubernatorial race in 2022.<\/p>\n

Just like other communities shield their leaders, he asked grassroots leaders to mobilize for the same in the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to beseech you the Luhya people to nurture our leaders so that they can compete at the national level,\u201d Lusaka said.<\/p>\n

If elected, he promised to prioritise the youth and give them opportunities both in the government and private sector.<\/p>\n

In the spirit of loyalty, Lusaka lauded Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as the best senator in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have one of the senators in the country, he is much focused and is an articulate debater,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On his part, Wetangula committed to ensuring the disadvantaged and minority people in the community are part and parcel of administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we despise the minority then we are under- civilised and going against devolution,\u201d Wetangula said.<\/p>\n

Lusaka declared his gubernatorial bid after meeting professionals and opinion leaders from across the county.<\/p>\n

This caused jitters in incumbent governor Wycliffe Wangamati\u2019s camp.<\/p>\n

Wangamati beat Lusaka, the county\u2019s first governor, in the 2017 elections.<\/p>\n

In his campaign trail at Tachoni elder Patrick Sitati\u2019s home, Lusaka was accompanied by Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetangula and other MCAs.<\/p>\n

Lusaka, a former provincial administrator, and Permanent Secretary appears to have learned from his mistakes in 2017 and says he has his eyes on the prize.<\/p>\n

Wangamati won the seat on the Ford Kenya ticket after garnering 197,422 votes.<\/p>\n

Lusaka, who ran on the Jubilee Party ticket, came a close second with 175,929 votes<\/p>\n
