Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The Kenya Railways Corporation, popularly known as Kenya Railways, has issued new directives to passengers travelling using the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).<\/p>\n

In a statement dated Monday, December 27, Kenya Railways changed the regulations on the kind of luggage that passengers travelling on the Madaraka express will be allowed to bring on board.<\/p>\n

Kenya Railways limited the weight of luggage carried by passengers to 30 kilograms.<\/p>\n

In addition, the suitcases or bags used by individuals travelling should not exceed 160 centimetres in length or 200 centimetres in height.<\/p>\n

All luggage exceeding 60 centimetres in width will also not to be allowed on board.<\/p>\n

In line with the increased passenger traffic during the festive season, passengers have been advised to arrive at their respective termini at least one hour before the expected departure time.<\/p>\n

“Customers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least one hour before departure time in order to enjoy a smooth check-in and boarding experience,” the statement read in part.<\/p>\n

In an earlier statement by Kenya Railways, passengers were cautioned of a possible influx in traffic and were consequently advised to book their travel in advance to owing to the increased demands on the train plying the Nairobi – Mombasa route.<\/p>\n

A train service from Nairobi to Kisumu was also launched on December 17. The cost of tickets on the metre gauge train would go at Ksh600 and Ksh2,000 for VIP.<\/p>\n

Also in operation is the Nairobi – Nanyuki train. On December 24, the train was fully booked, necessitating for the excess passengers to be ferried on the Nairobi Commuter Rail (NCR) service buses.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the corporation on December 25, Kenya Railways stated that it opted to use buses to transport many passengers who were left stranded after arriving at the station.<\/p>\n
