Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has blamed Kenyan voters for the chaos that rocked Parliament on Wednesday, December 29.<\/p>\n

In an exchange with Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina and his Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, December 30, Muturi argued that Kenyan voters were responsible for the crop of MPs that make up the 12th Parliament.<\/p>\n

It all started with Ledama castigating the MPs over their conduct before apologising.<\/p>\n

“Speaker Muturi, what are standing orders in the National Assembly for? There was nothing honorable about parliament and all those present yesterday. I am sorry Kenyans,” stated Ledama.<\/p>\n

In his response, Muturi claimed that he was not to be blamed since Kenyans were the voters in the 2017 General Election.<\/p>\n

“The voters get as good as they vote in. Garbage in garbage out. Don\u2019t blame me,” stated Muturi.<\/p>\n

Murkomen, on the other hand, was, however, having none of the Speaker’s explanation and questioned his ascend to the seat.<\/p>\n

“Did the garbage also elect a Speaker they deserve?” he wondered.<\/p>\n

The Wednesday voting exercise was adjourned at midnight after being marred by chaos that saw Sigowet\/Soin MP Kipsengeret Koros Koin sustain a face injury.<\/p>\n

Koin suffered an injury in the eye and was spotted bleeding from his right-hand cheek.<\/p>\n

Koros, who belongs to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) faction, was seen wiping off blood using his handkerchief. He claimed that he had been attacked by a fellow legislator in the August House.<\/p>\n

Video clips from the session also showed various opponents resorting to blows and kicks after the session’s proceedings got awry.<\/p>\n

Following the incident, the ODM Chairman and Minority Leader John Mbadi was suspended from parliament for five days. Mbadi admitted hitting Koros but noted that he acted in self-defence after his colleague bit his finger.<\/p>\n

Kimunya has since sent a letter to Muturi seeking for the special sitting to be held between Wednesday, January 5 and Friday, January 7 in 2022.<\/p>\n
