AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga is the latest high-profile Kenyan football star to join in the fight against coronavirus, Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Olunga who plays in Japan\u2019s J-League for Kashiwa Reysol donated hand wash among other things to car washes and children’s homes across various estates within Nairobi through his foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was my pleasure to lend a hand towards preventing the spread of COVID -19 by donating sanitisers and hand washes to small business owners, church, carwash, children homes and a few households across Lucky Summer, BabaDogo, Kasabuni, Kariadudu, Riverside and Glucola Estates,\u201d Olunga posted on Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Engineer\u201d as he is popularly known in Kenya is in self-quarantine in Japan, which was initially among the epicentres of the virus in early March.<\/p>\n

Japan\u2019s J-League was postponed in February due to the Covid-19 fears.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe J League will make maximum efforts to prevent infection and prevent its spread,\u201d the league said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Olunga had scored a brace in a season opener against Consadole Sapporo before the postponement. The mouth-watering clash ended 4-2.<\/p>\n

The coronavirus outbreak has led to an almost complete shutdown of professional sports in the world.<\/p>\n

The virus, having originated from Wuhan in China in December last year, continues to wreak havoc in the sporting world.<\/p>\n

Football has been at the epicentre of this deadly virus that continues to destroy people irrespective of their race, colour, and creed or where they come from.<\/p>\n

Despite footballers being incredibly fit athletes, they are susceptible to contracting coronavirus like anyone else.<\/p>\n

According to official numbers on Thursday (01\/04\/2020), there are currently 964,751 coronavirus cases in the world with 49,246 succumbing to the deadly virus. 203,274 have recovered from Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).<\/p>\n
