{"id":5421,"date":"2020-04-03T14:24:17","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T14:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/kenya\/?p=5421"},"modified":"2020-04-03T14:24:17","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T14:24:17","slug":"nyamira-traders-get-tax-relief-over-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/kenya\/economy\/nyamira-traders-get-tax-relief-over-virus","title":{"rendered":"Nyamira traders get tax relief over virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> A tax waiver has been extended to Nyamira traders by the county government to cushion them against the economic impact of the Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, governor John Nyagarama said no revenue will be collected by his administration until the crisis ends.<\/p>\n<p>Nyagarama&#8217;s tax directive came at a time when local traders were complaining that they were being forced to pay taxes even when business was low.Three weeks ago, all markets in the county closed but still, some small scale traders have been going on with their businesses while paying taxes to the county.<\/p>\n<p>Nyagarama also said his administration will allow traders who sell edible items to continue with their trade.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We closed all markets to allow measures that will fight coronavirus to be implemented,&#8221; said Mr Nyagarama.&#8221;We will, however, allow those selling edible commodities to do so under a controlled environment.&#8221; The governor also said he has taken a 30 per cent pay-cut.
