AfricaPress-Kenya:<\/strong> The Mombasa Water and Sewarage Company (Mowasco) has started putting water points in slum areas within the county after it embarked on water redistribution in the wake of Covid-19.<\/p>\n

The water agency is now redirecting the commodity to households, informal settlements and hospitals from large manufacturing firms, majority of which have shut down or scaled down operations.<\/p>\n

Mowasco Managing Director Anthony Njaramba said they have already mapped out several locations where they are installing water tanks for use by communities in informal settlements.Already 40 locations have had water tanks installed and tap water connected for home use.<\/p>\n

He named the locations on Mombasa island as Muoroto slums, Simitini and Palestine. Others within the island division are Railways Old estate near Highlevel KPA, Mwembe Tayari and Timboni.<\/p>\n

Shelly BeachIn Likoni, Mowasco said it will connect water at Shelly Beach, Mtongwe, Shonda, Mshale and Customs while in West mainland areas locations identified include National Youth Mwamlai, Chaani, Chamunyu, Nacal, Catholic, Sameta, Vikobani, Birikani and Sportsman.<\/p>\n

Other areas identified where water tanks are being erected in Nyali include Ziwa La Ngombe, Shauri Yako, Mkunguni, Kisimani and Kongowea while in Kisauni, tanks will be put up in Freretown,\u00a0 Kadzandani, Vikwatani, Bamburi Mwisho, Soko Mjinga, Kadongo, Falcon and Bengala.<\/p>\n

Mowasco moved to act on recommendations by the Mombasa County Emergency Response Covid-19 Committee to start water redistribution in Mombasa to help contain the spread of coronavirus.A joint communique issued by Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo also called for closure of all mitumba (second hand) business with immediate effect.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
