Police officers at the Milimani Law Courts yesterday had to call for reinforcement after a suspect refused to be taken to the cell.<\/p>\n

Drama started after the court assistant read the charges to Daniel Njonjo.Mr Njonjo started shouting, saying that he had been arrested on trumped-up charges by city council askaris.\u201cAfadhali nikufe, sina pesa na siendi mahali<\/em>\u00a0(I would rather die, I don\u2019t have money and I\u2019m going nowhere),\u201d he shouted.<\/p>\n

\"\"Njonjo is charged with being found in possession of a rungu and a knife in circumstances that indicated he was about to commit a robbery on January 7 on Kimathi Street.Magistrate Caroline Nzimbe asked him to listen to the charges after which he pleaded not guilty. Ms Nzimbe granted him Sh30,000 cash bail and an alternative bond of Sh50,000.<\/p>\n

Njonjo started shouting:\u201d Your honour, I have a sick mother and my children are going to school, I don\u2019t have such kind of money,\u201d Njonjo said.<\/p>\n

To handcuff<\/strong><\/p>\n

A policeman tried to handcuff Njonjo but he head-butted the officer.The magistrate had to adjourn the session to allow the police to take the accused away.<\/p>\n
