According to the pollster, Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila with his running mate Martha Karua has 49 percent of the city voters rallying behind him, with his chief political arch-rival Deputy President William Ruto trailing in the second position with 30 percent. George Wajackoya and David Mwaura scored 5 percent and 0.3 percent respectively.<\/p>\n

Kenya\u2019s general elections are scheduled to be held on 9th August 2022. Kenyans will elect their 5th President, members of the National Assembly and Senate, country governors, and members of the 47 county assembly. The competition is between the number two in power D P Ruto and the leader of the opposition Raila who was endorsed by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee Party.<\/p>\n
Kenya\u2019s electoral system<\/b><\/p>\n
The President of Kenya is elected using a modified version of the two-round system: to win the first round, a candidate must receive over 50 percent of the vote and at least 35 percent of the vote in a minimum of 24 of the 47 counties.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s support <\/b><\/p>\n
Mr, Raila also the former prime minister of Kenya enjoys major support from across the gender in the city country according to a recent pollster. According to the findings released on Wednesday, July 6. 2022, by John Wanyingo, a resident research manager at Infotrack, Raila enjoys 47 percent worth of support from women voters against Ruto\u2019s 29 percent and Wajackoya\u2019s 5 percent.<\/p>\n

The research showed that 52 percent of the men would vote for Raila, 30 percent rallying behind Ruto, with 6 percent willing to vote for Wajackoya.<\/p>\n

Infotrack also showed that Raila would secure more votes from those who are above 35 years of age. DP Ruto would secure most of his votes from 28-year-olds and above.<\/p>\n
Past research <\/b><\/p>\n
In the middle of the month of June 2022,\u00a0 the Intel Research Solutions (IRS)carried out research which indicated that Kenya\u2019s number two in command Ruto, and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua enjoy national support of 51.2 percent. On the other hand, the pollster showed that the arch-rival leader of the ODM Raila\u2019s national popularity stood at 42.5 percent. The poll established Kenya DP Ruto as the most preferred presidential candidate against the head of political alliance Azimio la Umoja (aspiration to unite) Raila.<\/p>\n
June 8th Infotrak research<\/b><\/p>\n
At the beginning of this month, Infotrak released research that showed Raila commands a lead in coming Kenya\u2019s State House race. The poll released by Infotrak on Wednesday, June 8, indicated Raila had the support of 42 percent of Kenyans nationally against Ruto\u2019s 38 percent.DP Ruto dismissed these opinion polls saying they are part of a scheme to rig the August elections. Ruto added that Raila\u2019s alliance has tried all means to win the election. All that is left is the use of fake opinion polls and the spread of propaganda that they shall steal his votes which will be impossible.<\/p>\n
The war between the two elephants <\/b><\/p>\n
The competition between Raila and DP Ruto started at the very moment when Raila showed his interest in the top sit. Ruto was the first politician to publicly declare his intention to vie for the presidency about five years ago and dominated the political scene until December 2021, when Rail made clear his intention to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. Since then, the race has been getting tighter each day, with the former premier steadily closing the gap that Ruto had opened.<\/p>\n
Candidates<\/b><\/p>\n
AS of 6th June 2022, only four candidates and their running mates had been cleared.\u00a0 The candidates include Raila Odinga former Prime Minister of Kenya and leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), William Ruto current Deputy President of Kenya and leader of United Democratic Alliance, David Waihiga Mwaure, leader of Agano Party and George Wajackoyah, leader of Roots Party of Kenya. On 2nd May 2022, a list of 47 independent candidates was submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). But On 13 May, the IEBC released a list of 38 contenders who had been accepted.<\/p>\n
Kenya\u2019s governorship race <\/b><\/p>\n
Meanwhile, in the city governorship race, Johnson Sakaja of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party would take a clear lead if the election were held this week. According to the survey which was conducted by Interviews through Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI), Sakaja is leading in popularity at 39 percent followed by his main challenger Polycarp Igathe of Jubilee who has 33 percent of the respondents falling behind him. Independent candidate Agnes Kagure comes a distant third with 0.4 percent only.<\/p>\n
Undecided voters<\/b><\/p>\n
The poll revealed that Nairobi still has a high number of undecided voters at 24 percent. This could tilt the outcome of the gubernatorial contest and see either Sakaja or Igathe win by a clear margin.<\/p>\n
