Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>President Uhuru Kenyatta has asked Kenyans to maintain peace as the country is in the transition period.<\/p>\n

In a statement after meeting the US visiting Senator Chris Coons, Uhuru said Kenya will remain steadfast in entrenching the principles of good governance.<\/p>\n

The president said he is committed to ensuring that Kenya upholds its position as a shining example of democracy on the continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy greatest desire is that peace will prevail and we may set an example in the continent and the world,\u201d President Kenyatta said.<\/p>\n

Uhuru on Thursday met and held discussions with Senator Coons who paid him a courtesy call at State House Nairobi.<\/p>\n

Senator Coons, who is leading a congressional delegation of US Senate and House Representatives, commended President Kenyatta for ensuring peace and stability prevailed during the election period.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are encouraged by the peace Kenya has continued to experience during this period,\u201d said Senator Coons.<\/p>\n

Also present during the talks were Cabinet Secretaries Raychelle Omamo (Foreign Affairs) Betty Maina (Trade) and US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman among others.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Senator Coons held talks with president-elect William Ruto at his official Karen residence.<\/p>\n

The talks touched on the just concluded elections in the country and the mutual relationship between Kenya and United States.<\/p>\n

He also met Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Deputy President candidate Martha Karua.<\/p>\n

They discussed shared democratic values.<\/p>\n
