Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Commonwealth secretary general Patricia Scotland has asked Kenyans to continue maintaining peace after the recently concluded elections.<\/p>\n

Scotland commended the electoral process which she said national and international observer missions have commended as being largely peaceful and transparent.<\/p>\n

This is despite claims of rigging from four commissioners of the electoral commission and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition who are now planning to file a petition at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

“Having personally spoken to Mr. Chebukati, Chair of the IEBC, Mr. Ruto and Mr. Odinga, I am reassured that the rule of law will be respected and pleased to hear that all sides are committed to ensuring peace and letting the process play out in the court of law,” Scotland said.<\/p>\n

Unlike in the previous elections, Kenya has been peaceful since the declaration of the presidential results on Monday despite rigging allegations.<\/p>\n

The announcement was preceded by chaotic scenes at the national tallying centre at the Bomas of Kenya leading to the injury of several people including two IEBC commissioners and a politician opposed to the results.<\/p>\n

“Whatever the outcomes of that process, I trust and know that democracy will win the day and this is something all Kenyans should indeed be proud of,” Scotland said.<\/p>\n

She said she looks forward to supporting Kenyans as they follow up on the recommendations of the Commonwealth Observer Group in the coming months.<\/p>\n
