Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Newly-elected members of the National Assembly will undergo a two-day orientation starting August 25.<\/p>\n

The new MPs, according to a notice by Acting Clerk Serah Kioko, would be required to attend the two-day meeting at Parliament Buildings.<\/p>\n

Among activities scheduled include registration of the members, collection of bio-data information, and issuance of parliamentary identification cards.<\/p>\n

The new members would also be briefed on the chamber voting system and tour the Parliament Buildings.<\/p>\n

They would also be briefed by the Office of the Clerk on essential legislative matters as they begin their five-year tour of duty.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the orientation sessions, the members-elect will also be briefed on, among other things, the services and facilities available to the members,\u201d Kioko said.<\/p>\n

The new MPs will also be facilitated to register for various services and facilities available including medical insurance and other related services, facilities and benefits.<\/p>\n

Kioko said re-elected members are also expected at the session as they would be required to register for medical insurance among other benefits accorded to MPs.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo this end, all members-elect including members who have been re-elected are encouraged to attend the orientation sessions,\u201d Kioko said.<\/p>\n

The new MPs would also be required to submit their bio-data details during the orientation sessions, including their contact details through which they will receive notifications from the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

The required documents include original ID or Passport, KRA pin certificate, original certificate of election issued by the IEBC, and copy of an updated curriculum vitae.<\/p>\n

\u201cEach member-elect shall be required to submit the original certificate of the elected member of the National Assembly issued by the IEBC Returning Officer to the Clerk of the National Assembly,\u201d the notice reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon submission, the Clerk shall make a copy of the certificate and certify the copy and return the original certificate to the member-elect.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kioko said after the first sitting, MPs shall undergo induction sessions organised by the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

At least 146 members of the National Assembly representing single constituencies were sent packing in the elections held on August 9 and 34 of the 47 woman representatives, some of whom sought county posts.<\/p>\n
