Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has said the aim of the Azimio coalition is not for the Supreme Court to nullify the presidential elections but announce presidential candidate Raila Odinga as the winner.<\/p>\n

In a social media post, the lawyer said that the coalition didn’t want a re-run following their recent argument that there were votes that were not counted.<\/p>\n

“Outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila don’t want the Supreme Court to nullify the presidential election of August 9,” he said.<\/p>\n

“They don’t want a rerun. They want the Supreme Court to declare that Raila won the August 9 elections using fuzzy maths. Improbable? No! Impossible? No,” he added.<\/p>\n

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Monday announced William Ruto as President-elect.<\/p>\n

Before Chebukati announced, four IEBC commissioners hastily held a presser at Serena Hotel distancing themselves from the results.<\/p>\n

The four led by commissioner Juliana Cherera said they cannot take ownership of the results because of the opaque nature they have been handled.<\/p>\n

“We have done the 2022 general election in the most efficient manner. We have ensured that all the challenges have been contained,” commissioner Juliana Cherera said.<\/p>\n

Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes while Raila received 6,942,930 votes which are 48.85 per cent of the vote.<\/p>\n

In a press brief on Tuesday, Raila claimed that the declaration of Ruto as the president-elect was null and void.<\/p>\n

Raila said he will go to the Supreme Court of Kenya to challenge the presidential results.<\/p>\n

“Let no one take the law into their own hands. We are pursuing constitutional and lawful channels to invalidate Chebukati’s illegal and unconstitutional pronouncement. We are certain that justice will prevail,” Raila said.<\/p>\n

His legal team is exploring seven crucial grounds to overturn Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

Top lawyers are putting together what they say is watertight evidence to convince the seven-judge bench at the apex court that Ruto’s win cannot stand.<\/p>\n

The lawyers have been meeting in Nairobi’s Lavington area to beat next week’s Monday 2pm deadline for filing of a presidential petition.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, insiders who spoke to the Star painted a picture of a broad petition combing through the entire electoral process to fatally impugn the outcome.<\/p>\n

The team is understood to be casting their net wide to focus on areas such as handling of the voters register, tendering process, handling of sensitive electoral materials and some IEBC insiders’ alleged unholy relationship with the political class.<\/p>\n
