Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The just concluded elections saw some governors who were elected at the inception of the devolution reclaim their seats in the August 9 polls.<\/p>\n

Those who were elected got a chance to bounce back after they were sent home following the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n

Here are some of those who reclaimed their seats:<\/p>\n

Joshua Irungu<\/b><\/p>\n

Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi lost his bid for a second term to UDA’s Joshua Irungu who made a comeback.<\/p>\n

Irungu, garnered 113,783 votes while Muriithi, who was vying on a Jubilee ticket under Azimio la Umoja coalition came second with 48,563 votes.<\/p>\n

Irungu served as Laikipia governor between 2013 to 2017 after he was elected on a TNA ticket but was beaten by Muriithi an independent candidate in 2017 polls.<\/p>\n

Simon Kachapin<\/b><\/p>\n

West Pokot’s first governor Simon Kachapin reclaimed the seat after defeating John Lonyangapuo of the Kenya Union Party.<\/p>\n

Kachapin vied on United Democratic Alliance and garnered 86,476 votes against Prof Lonyangapuo who got 84,610.<\/p>\n

Lonyangapuo’s deputy, Nicholas Atudonyang, was third with 2,294 votes.<\/p>\n

There was tension between police and supporters of the two main sides following a standoff, with each side claiming victory.<\/p>\n

Julius Makau Malombe<\/b><\/p>\n

Former Kitui governor Julius Makau bounced back to reclaim the seat he lost to Charity Ngilu in 2017.<\/p>\n

Malombe garnered 198,004 votes with his closest rival and former senator David Musila of the Jubilee party coming a distant second with 114,606 votes.<\/p>\n

UDA’s Jonathan Mueke, who is a former Nairobi deputy governor, got 10,639 votes.<\/p>\n

Although the outgoing Kitui governor Ngilu had belatedly withdrawn from the race, her name was on the ballot and she also received 2,026 votes.<\/p>\n

Benjamin Cheboi<\/b><\/p>\n

The first Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi weaved his way back to the office through a UDA party ticket.<\/p>\n

Cheboi defended his seat in 2017 through the Jubilee party but lost to the incumbent Stanley Kiptis in party primaries.<\/p>\n

Cheboi garnered 137, 486 votes and was followed by Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet who contested as an Independent candidate and got 60, 879 votes.<\/p>\n

Incumbent Kiptis who also vied on an Independent ticket got 17, 646 votes.<\/p>\n

Issa Abdallah Timamy<\/b><\/p>\n

Former Lamu governor Issa Timamy of ANC recaptured the seat after defeating incumbent Fahim Yasin Twaha of the Jubilee Party.<\/p>\n

Timamy garnered 24,198 votes against Twaha’s 16,054 votes.<\/p>\n

The Lawyer served as the first governor of Lamu at the advent of the devolved system of government in 2013.<\/p>\n

But in the 2017 general elections, Timamy lost the seat to the incumbent.<\/p>\n

Nathif Jama<\/b><\/p>\n

Former Governor Nathif Jama made a political comeback after flooring his arch-rival Ali Korane of Jubilee to recapture his seat.<\/p>\n

Jama, an ODM candidate, garnered 69,342 votes.<\/p>\n

Korane conceded defeat even before the results were announced. He managed to get 26,148 votes while Dekow Barrow of UDA garnered 13,602 votes.<\/p>\n
