Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kenya tennis star Angela Okutoyi is seeking to improve her form ahead of next week’s J1 Repentigny tennis tournament in Canada.<\/p>\n

The country’s youngest Kenya Open champion left the country on Tuesday night after securing her visa and will want to go on a good run in the event ahead of the US Junior Open slated to start on September 4.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi had a mixed performance during the Women’s Futures tennis tournament early this month in Tunisia, only reaching the second round once in the three tournaments.<\/p>\n

However, she has expressed confidence of putting up a better show this time around in the Canadian event.<\/p>\n

“Tunisia was a tough tournament yet my form was inconsistent. This time, I am confident of making an improvement and I am relishing the challenge of competing against the best,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi will attend a four-day camp to sharpen up her skills before the tournament as part of the Grandslam tournament development programme.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a couple of days to work on areas of my skills and then acclimatize to the weather here in Canada,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi will face familiar faces like Italian Federica Urgesi and Canadians Mia Kupres and Kayla Cross in the one-week tournament in Canada.<\/p>\n

Mia Kupres knocked Okutoyi out of the Wimbledon singles junior first round 6-3, 6-2 in the first round.<\/p>\n

At the French Open, Okutoyi lost to Petra Marcinko of Croatia in the second round after going down 6-2, 6-4. She had defeated Amelie Vvan Impe of Belgium 7-6, 6-4 in the first round.<\/p>\n

The teen sensation received a major boost before departure with tennis membership from both the Karen and Nairobi clubs alongside her twin sister Rosehilda Asumwa.<\/p>\n

She got a further boost after receiving the Sports Personality of the Month award for the month of July after winning the junior doubles category at Wimbledon alongside Rose Marie Nijkamp of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m delighted to get the membership because this is key to my preparations. Using facilities like Karen or Nairobi makes a lot of difference in my training,\u201d added Okutoyi.<\/p>\n

Karen Club has given her a three-year membership while Nairobi Club has awarded the membership until she turns 25 years<\/p>\n
