Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>The High court has frozen land, 11 cars and 3 motorcycles belonging to a procurement officer suspected to have benefited in Sh40M bribes from entities awarded tenders by the Nairobi county.<\/p>\n

The lands are situated in Siaya, Kisumu and Utawala.<\/p>\n

Justice Daniel Ogembo issued the preservation orders after the antigraft agency argued that Michael Auka Ajwang had been using his hotel-Hydeout Riviera to conceal proceeds of corruption.<\/p>\n

Ajwang is an employee of Nairobi county and is the owner of the high-end three-star hotel situated along Kisumu Bondo road.<\/p>\n

His spouse, Risper Achieg Ojigo is said to be the other director of the hotel.<\/p>\n

The EACC told the court they suspect the assets are proceeds of corruption and there is a need to preserve them for 6 months pending the conclusion of their investigations into the matter.<\/p>\n

Ajwang according to the court documents earns a salary of Sh 53,685. Between January 2014 to June 2022, he earned a net salary amounting to Sh2.1 million.<\/p>\n

EACC says there is a huge discrepancy between the profiled assets and his known legitimate sources of income.<\/p>\n

Some of the assets have been traced to his spouse and his associate companies: The Hydeout and Hoho Farm.<\/p>\n

“Investigations established that Ajwang has received over Sh40 million as bribes from companies trading with the county government,” read the documents.<\/p>\n

The case will be heard on September 22.<\/p>\n
