Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Wimbledon doubles junior champion Angela Okutoyi and Malwina Rowinski of Poland advanced to the quarterfinals of the J1 Repentigny tournament in Canada.<\/p>\n

The duo beat Canadian Eliana Kook and Anna Rapehelle Sergi 6-4 6-2.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi was delighted with the win, saying she is targeting the semis.<\/p>\n

“Delighted with the win. It was a tough match but Malwina and I fought hard, especially in the first set to progress to the last eight,” noted Okutoyi<\/p>\n

The Canadian duo put up a fight in the first set, matching Okutoyi and Rowinski, but fell apart in the second set following a succession of unforced errors.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi is using the event as a warm-up for the US Junior Open and said her progress to the semifinal gives her hope of a good performance after an indifferent performance at the Women’s Futures tournament in Monastir Tunisia early this month.<\/p>\n

“I have worked hard on my game in all aspects and I’m happy. However, there is still room for improvement,” observed Okutoyi<\/p>\n

The teen sensation will play her opening singles match against Slovenia’s Ella Nala Milic after getting a bye in the first round.<\/p>\n

Milic advanced after beating Canadian Dylan Gelber 6-0 6-1 on Monday.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi, Kenya’s youngest Kenya Open champion is hoping for a good run in the singles category.<\/p>\n

“It’s been tough getting out of the first round but I am taking one match at a time. I hope to do better than in my previous tournament in Tunisia,” she said.<\/p>\n

Okutoyi said she has adapted well to the soaring temperatures at the Larochelle Park.<\/p>\n

“I have been here for a week and I have adapted well. The conditions at the US Open in New York will be similar and this helps me going forward,\u201d she observed.<\/p>\n

The teen sensation said the experience of playing at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon will be vital.<\/p>\n

“I have played three grand slams this year and I will not be under pressure playing in my fourth,\u201d noted Okutoyi.<\/p>\n
