Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Debutants Ototo upset defending champions Bar-Chando Girls 68-28 in the opening game of the Nyanza Secondary School Term Two games at Asumbi Teachers Training College on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ototo, coached by Clement Nyakinda, started the game on a high note, winning the first quarter 28-8 and took the second 23-6. After the first half, Ototo coach introduced fringe players, who won the third quarter 11-5 and lost 9-6 in the last.<\/p>\n

Nyakinda sounded a warning to his rivals after the comprehensive win. \u201cI expect the girls to play better in the upcoming games. Our target is to play at the national championships,\u201d said the soft-spoken Nyakinda.<\/p>\n

His Bar-Chando counterpart Nelson Oyoo said: \u201cWe arrived just before the game. We didn\u2019t even have time to warm up. I hope the girls will dust themselves up and win the remaining games.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another match, St Angela\u2019s Sengera Girls thrashed Nyamira\u2019s Ekenyoro 56-15 in a Gusii region derby.<\/p>\n

In the boy\u2019s category, defending champions Agoro Sare were in a class of their own, thrashing debutants Ekenyoro from Nyamira 128-37 in a one-sided match.<\/p>\n

Girl\u2019s football defending champions Nyakach Girls struggled to beat former champions Jera 1-0. Velma Awuor scored the all-important goal. Coach Cripine Odundo was, however, confident that his girls will rediscover their scoring form.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must score more goals. I\u2019m not happy with the way we played today but I hope they will improve,\u201d said Odundo.<\/p>\n

In the second match, Kobala defeated debutants Kerongorori 2-0 after goals from Yvonne Ochieng and Rehema Mweri.<\/p>\n

Kobala coach Benerd Akeyo said: \u201cThe level of the game has improved since all the teams are strong now. The girls are determined to reclaim their title.\u201d<\/p>\n

In hockey, Nyamira Girls, coached by Eliakim Obondo, walloped debutants Amaiko 11-0. Lavender Winde struck five times with Lorine Adhiambo scoring a hattrick. Vivian Onunga scored twice as Sophie Awino netted once.<\/p>\n

Obondo said: \u201cI hope the tempo will not go down. We have already set standards and raised the bar. Nyamira Girls is the team to beat. If Sinyolo blinks, we shall beat them too.\u201d<\/p>\n

In netball, Kisii County’s Keberesi defeated Rirumi 21-12 while former champions Obambo succumbed to 41-04 loss against Kobala.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the rugby Sevens programme will kick off on Friday with champions Agoro Sare opening their title defence against St Joseph\u2019s Rapogi while former champions St Mary\u2019s Yala will lock horns with St Paul\u2019s Gekano.<\/p>\n

Former champions Maseno School will face Rapogi as Nduru Boys plays Gekano. In other fixtures, Agoro Sare entertain Maseno School and Nduru Boys face St Mary\u2019s Yala.<\/p>\n

St Paul\u2019s Gekano High School will tackle Gesabakwa in a Gusii region derby with Kanga facing Kisumu Day while Agoro Sare will battle it out with Gekano as Barding take on Kanga.<\/p>\n

In the girl\u2019s category, St Paul\u2019s Agenga will lock horns with Nyakach Girls as Gekomoni and Kobala face off. St Paul\u2019s Agenga have a date with Jera.<\/p>\n
