Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai was Thursday discharged from hospital.<\/p>\n

This was a week after he was admitted to the hospital after he collapsed in his Karen house.<\/p>\n

Doctors said he had pressure in his brain that caused the collapse.<\/p>\n

He was admitted to the High Dependence Unit for three days before he was moved to a normal ward.<\/p>\n

He was on Thursday, September 1 at 2:30pm discharged from Aga Khan Hospital and doctors said he will now be under home-based care.<\/p>\n

This is after doctors handling him said his pressure is stabilizing and he is responding well to medication.<\/p>\n

He was instructed to take a total rest as part of efforts to manage his problem, a member of his family said.<\/p>\n

Acting Inspector General who is also the substantive Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service, Noor Gabow, is among those who have been visiting Mutyambai in hospital.<\/p>\n

Mutyambai\u2019s sickness prompted him to nominate Gabow to act as the police boss.<\/p>\n

He was rushed to the Aga Khan Hospital\u2019s High Dependence Unit Thursday night where he was admitted to enable doctors to conduct various tests on him before deciding on the next course of action.<\/p>\n

The HDU is a specialist ward providing intensive care (treatment and monitoring) for critically ill people.<\/p>\n

Mutyambai said August 26 he will be away from the office attending to a medical checkup.<\/p>\n

“This is to inform the general public that I will be away from the office attending to a medical checkup effective today, 26th August 2022,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“In my absence, Mr Noor Gabow, the Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service, will act as the Inspector General of the National Police Service until my return.\u201d<\/p>\n

The move has sparked debate on what happens in such circumstances.<\/p>\n

The IG exercises independent command of the service. He may perform functions or exercise the powers in person or may delegate to any police officer junior to him.<\/p>\n

In cases where the IG is suspended from office or incapable of performing his functions, the President may appoint another person to perform the duties for up to three months.<\/p>\n

It is not the first time under his term for Mutyambai to delegate his mandate for medical reasons.<\/p>\n

When he fell sick in 2020, he delegated the functions to the DIG Kenya Police Edward Mbugua.<\/p>\n
