Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Security officials have been asked to beef up security in country, ahead of the Supreme Court judgement.<\/p>\n

In a statement seen by the Star, deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua has directed regional and county police bosses to prepare for any eventualities that might come as a result of the verdict.<\/p>\n

The letter dated September 1, said the officers should prepare orders to handle the aftermath, and send copies of the same to Kenya Police Service headquarters.<\/p>\n

“Depending on the ruling of the Court of Appeal of Kenya, we expect various reactions from members of the public in hot spot areas such as violence and destruction of property. Demonstrations and celebrations,” the letter reads.<\/p>\n

The order comes after the United States embassy in Nairobi cautioned its citizens against travelling to, and within Kisumu ahead of the Supreme Court ruling.<\/p>\n

In an advisory on Thursday, the US said the ruling might occasion post-election violence.<\/p>\n

” Election-related demonstrations and rallies regularly take place after elections, at times blocking key intersections and causing traffic jams,” the US said.<\/p>\n

“Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention. Strikes and other protest activities related to economic conditions occur regularly.”<\/p>\n

The US said out of an abundance of caution, the embassy had imposed movement restrictions on U.S. government personnel in Kisumu.<\/p>\n

” The State Department reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for sustained vigilance,” the US said.<\/p>\n
