Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Kakamega and Mombasa Governors elect will be sworn in on September 15, 2022, as per the law.<\/p>\n

This is after the two counties elected their new county bosses on August 29, 2022, after being postponed two times.<\/p>\n

In Mombasa, ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir won the governor’s race while in Kakamega it was Fernandes Barasa.<\/p>\n

By law, all newly elected governors are supposed to be sworn in 10 days after being declared winners by the IEBC.<\/p>\n

The swearing-in is supposed to take place on the first Thursday after the lapse of the ten days.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Governor-elect shall, during the swearing-in ceremony, take and subscribe to the oath or affirmation of office as prescribed in the First Schedule section of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act 2019,\u201d states the law states.<\/p>\n

The 45 governors were sworn in on August 25, 2022.<\/p>\n

The law stipulates that the oath or affirmation shall take place not earlier than 10.00 am and not later than 2.00 pm.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Governor-elect shall, during the swearing-in ceremony, take and subscribe to the oath or affirmation of office as prescribed in the First Schedule section of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act 2019,\u201d states the law states<\/p>\n

However, the exercise will take place immediately after the winners of county seats are gazetted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).<\/p>\n

Chief Justice Martha Koome had already appointed 47 judges who will preside over the swearing-in.<\/p>\n

The law states that the swearing-in of the governor-elect shall occur in a public ceremony before a High Court Judge.<\/p>\n

In Mombasa, Justice George Dulu will preside over the ceremony while in Kakamega it will be Justice Dora Chepkwony.<\/p>\n
