Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Lawyer Willis Otieno has thanked Kenyans and those who supported him during the three-day proceedings of the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

In a series of tweets on Saturday, Otieno said he is overwhelmed by the kind words he has received over his submissions at the court.<\/p>\n

“It has been three long days at the Supreme Court of Kenya and I wish to thank everyone for the great company and support during my petition submissions.<\/p>\n

“I was not able to respond to every tag and your very interesting mentions, and hilarious memes, but please feel all appreciated,” Otieno said in the thank you note.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Otieno, who was representing petitioner David Kariuki, caused a light moment in court when he resorted to singing a nursery rhyme midway his submissions.<\/p>\n

The lawyer was explaining how IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati had turned the commission’s mandate into a child’s play.<\/p>\n

“What Chebukati did is what my niece, Mimi, calls ‘Pinky pinky ponky, Paka mielo disko! (the cat is dancing at a disco),” he said and questioned if that is how the IEBC wanted to run elections.<\/p>\n

And on the third day of hearings on Friday, Otieno yet again caught public attention when he used a hilarious plumber analogy to describe how a Venezuelan foreigner allegedly hacked into the IEBC portal and changed results.<\/p>\n

“A plumber who is in your bathroom when you are showering after fixing your shower is no longer a plumber but a sexual offender and should be reported,” he said.<\/p>\n

This was in reference to claims by the IEBC that Venezuelan Jose Camargo came into the country as an IT specialist and left before elections.<\/p>\n

However, lawyer Julie Soweto had told the Supreme Court that Camargo, manipulated figures in the portal and literally decided who the President of Kenya would be.<\/p>\n

After giving the plumber analogy, Otieno used a Biblical story line to explain how to deal with the ‘sexual’ offender.<\/p>\n

“If you find him at that time, you tell him, get behind me Satan as was said in the book of Mark 8:33 in the Bible when the devil entered Peter and Jesus told him, get behind me Satan,” Otieno said.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the lawyer said he feels privileged to have been part of the legal team that fought for electoral justice in the country.<\/p>\n

“I am overwhelmed by your kind words and love and I am happy to have been part of this quest for Justice as we endeavor to make elections in Kenya more transparent and accountable for more sustainable peace and stability,” Otieno said.<\/p>\n

His client’s petition was among the seven that were consolidated into one in support of the one filed by Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n

Raila has asked the apex court to overturn President-elect William Ruto’s win at the August 9 polls saying illegalities were committed during tallying and transmission of results.<\/p>\n

The court will deliver its verdit on the allegations on Monday, September 5, 2022.<\/p>\n

“Now we leave it to the eminent bench to make a determination and whichever way it goes, Kenya will only be left richer in our jurisprudence and the country will not always have to hold her breath or be at a standstill during elections and after. God bless you, God bless Kenya,” Otieno said.<\/p>\n
