Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Tana River Senator-elect Danson Mungatana has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court will uphold President-elect William Ruto’s victory.<\/p>\n

He also says in the event that the Supreme Court nullifies the results, Ruto will still win the repeat election.<\/p>\n

\u201cAzimio people are saying that we did not win but I want to state here that we won fairly and elections cannot be determined by the courts and if they want a rerun we will still win easily,\u201d Mungatana said.<\/p>\n

The Senator-elect who was speaking in Tana River stated that Azimio la Umoja One coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga should concede defeat and allow the country to move forward.<\/p>\n

He claimed that the former prime minister is being pushed by greedy politicians to cling onto false hope for their own political survival and will abandon him immediately after they get the posts.<\/p>\n

\u201cRaila is tired and they are still pushing him to run. They force him to be on the ballot even when he wants to hand it over to another leader. They are exploiting him even at the moment they have already won their seats but they cannot even visit him,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Mungatana argued that Kenya Kwanza\u2019s victory was a result of a strong campaign mounted by the alliance leaders and that the Raila-led coalition cannot match.<\/p>\n

The former Garsen MP bounced back to power after 10 years in the cold after clinching the Tana River senatorial seat in the August 9 polls.<\/p>\n

With a UDA party ticket, he received overwhelming support and beat the immediate former Senator Juma Wario, Hassan Dukicha, a former Galole MP, among other contestants.<\/p>\n

On August 15, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared Deputy President William Ruto the President-elect after he defeated Raila and two other candidates in the poll on August 9.<\/p>\n

Ruto was declared winner with 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent of the votes cast, against Raila\u2019s 6,942,930 votes, or 48.85 per cent of the votes cast.<\/p>\n

However, Raila rejected the results terming them “null and void” and promised a bruising battle at the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court is expected to deliver its verdict on the presidential petition on Monday, September 5, 2022.<\/p>\n
