Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has commended city residents for electing what he says are ward representatives who are passionate about making a difference.<\/p>\n

The governor on Saturday posted on his Twitter handle photos of him at a caucus with a section of the MCAs in Mombasa.<\/p>\n

“My people of Nairobi, you chose well. These MCAs are really passionate about making a difference,” Sakaja said.<\/p>\n

The County Assembly will have its first sitting on September 9 during which time they will elect a new Speaker.<\/p>\n

The Mombasa meeting was reportedly meant to lay the work plan and strategise on the election of the House leadership.<\/p>\n

“We shall work together and make Nairobi a city of order, dignity, hope and opportunity for all. Let\u2019s make Nairobi Work. Asanteni sana (thank you very much),” Sakaja said.<\/p>\n

On Friday, Azimio allied MCAs said they would skip the meeting due to the pending determination of the presidential petition before the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

Led by Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok, the ward reps said they were acting on direct instructions from the Azimio leadership.<\/p>\n

“We are still in court challenging presidential results and we have no time to discuss issues of assembly Speaker. He can do that with his UDA team,” Imwatok said.<\/p>\n

They also questioned the source of funds that would foot the expenses of the trip to Mombasa.<\/p>\n

“As Azimio MCAs we will really want to know whether taxpayers money was spent on people who have not been sworn in as MCAs,\u201d Kilimani MCA and Minority Whip Moses Ogeto said.<\/p>\n

Mountain view MCA Maurice Ochieng’ said the caucus was hurriedly planned before they are even sworn in.<\/p>\n

“What\u2019s the hurry and our leaders are still in court?\u201d he posed.<\/p>\n

The group also skipped Sakaja’s swearing-in ceremony on August 25 saying they were not aware President-elect William Ruto would grace the event.<\/p>\n
