Africa-Press – Kenya. <\/strong><\/span>Yet again, President-elect William Ruto was full of gratitude to the almighty God in his maiden speech after the Supreme Court of Kenya upheld his election.<\/p>\n

“I am overwhelmed. This is a day like no other. Let me take this opportunity to thank God. It is God. Without him, we would not be here,” Ruto said while addressing the nation from his Karen residence.<\/p>\n

He added:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not let you down. We will work hard and not let you down.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ruto, in brief, walked Kenyans down the memory lane of tough hurdles they went through to reach where they are saying it was because of God’s grace.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday the people of Kenyans have made a choice which has been confirmed by the judiciary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

“We are grateful as a team. We have come on a long journey and we have worked hard. As the bible teaches in Provers 20, some trust on Chariots and others horses but we trust in God.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said it was not the waking up early or the long working hours but the favour of God that has gotten them to the presidency.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me thank many people who prayed for us from across the religious divide. In fact, I had said that on the day I was given the certificate, I said we were prayed into victory,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further thanked his wife Rachel who he said prays for him every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe prays for me every day inclusive my children for believing in me and always encouraging me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ruto also paid special tribute who paid the ultimate price in fighting for the presidency.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany of you have been taken to court and harassed and the only crime is you chose me as a friend and I don\u2019t take it for granted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believed in a better Kenya and more democratic Kenya. Along the way many brothers and sisters joined us. I want to thank you for you gave momentum to our journey. Asante sana.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court of Kenya on Monday confirmed the election of William Ruto as the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.<\/p>\n

Reading the verdict on Monday, Chief Justice Martha Koome said Ruto garnered 50 per cent plus one vote cast.<\/p>\n

Ruto had garnered 7.1m while Raila Odinga garnered 6.9m as declared by the IEBC.<\/p>\n

The confirmation followed an intense 14-day process in which lawyers representing Azimio’s Raila Odinga, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and President-elect William Ruto did battle.<\/p>\n

Raila has disagreed with the decision of the Supreme Court of Kenya which dismissed his petition and upheld the election of Ruto as president-elect.<\/p>\n

In a statement in reference to the verdict, Raila said even though the judgement was not in their favour, it does not end the Azimio la Umoja movement.<\/p>\n

“The judgement is by no means the end of our movement, in fact, it inspires us to redouble our efforts to transform this country into a prosperous democracy where each and every Kenyan can find their full belonging,” he stated.<\/p>\n
